🌍 Live Talk Recap: “Brazilian Women Around the World” with Dr. Débora Pasin

On March 8th, I had the absolute pleasure of joining an inspiring live conversation hosted by English professor and researcher Dr. Débora Pasin. The topic? Brazilian Women Around the World: From Adaptation to Life Abroad — a subject close to my heart as a Brazilian writer living abroad.

💡 About Dr. Débora Pasin

Dr. Débora Pasin is a seasoned linguist and educator with over 28 years of experience helping medical and healthcare professionals internationalize their careers through confident English communication. Her journey began in 1989 during her first stay in the USA, where she assisted American classmates with Spanish and exchange students with English. She holds degrees in Portuguese and English from ULBRA and PUCRS, respectively, and specialized in Translation Studies. Her passion for languages led her to teach five languages: Portuguese, English, Italian, Spanish, and French. In 2015, she was invited to pursue a Ph.D. in Medicine and Health Sciences, applying her medical-academic English program at PUCRS and the University of Turin. Dr. Pasin has since helped numerous professionals, including prominent figures in medicine, to internationalize their careers with confidence.

💬 What We Discussed

Dr. Pasin and I explored the joys and challenges faced by Brazilian women around the world — from building a new life in a foreign country to navigating language, culture, and professional dreams. It was a heartfelt, honest conversation filled with practical advice and personal reflections.

🔍 Highlights from the Live:

1. 🗣️ Language First: Don’t wait until you’re abroad — start studying the language early!

2. 🎓 Know Your Strengths: Check which countries need your skillset (many publish demand lists).

3. 🌐 Cultural Intelligence: Understand and respect cultural nuances.

4. 😅 Embrace Mistakes: Growth often comes from getting it wrong first.

5. 🚫 Ditch Perfectionism: If you wait to feel “ready,” your dreams may stay on hold forever.
