This is Me!
Hi, I’m Jessica Gabrielzyk — writer, researcher, and mom living in Switzerland.
I’m on a mission to illuminate the invisible layers of expat life — especially in motherhood.
I’m the author of Maternity Abroad, a practical and emotional guide for immigrant mothers navigating one of life’s most vulnerable moments: having a baby away from their home country. The book focuses on pregnancy, birth, and postpartum through a culturally conscious lens — blending real talk with lived experience.
Since its release, the book has reached readers in over 13 countries across 5 continents — including the U.S., Brazil, Germany, India, Australia, Portugal, Ireland, and New Zealand.
Motherhood abroad is often a silent terrain. You don’t always know what’s “normal,” what’s safe, or even who to ask. I write to bring light to those gaps — to help mothers feel seen, supported, and rooted. To remind them they’re not alone — and that there is power and belonging in the in-between.
I’m deeply passionate about culture, identity, and diversity — and about all the things no one tells you about life abroad.
I’m a proud member of SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) and the International Academy of Brazilian Literature.
I’m currently working on my next book: Parenting Unpacked: This Is Not a Relocation Manual — a deeper dive into the unspoken layers of raising kids across cultures, including identity, race, faith, emotional resilience, and what it means to truly belong when your roots are constantly shifting.
My goal? To open real conversations.
To honor untold stories.
And to show that migration doesn’t erase who we are — it transforms us.
