Does anyone know how to say déjà vu in Spanish? I should have googled it before starting this post.

Because again, much like my presentation for the SIETAR Valencia Congress earlier this year, I really wanted to start this post with a good sentence in Spanish because my dad was born in Uruguay and his mother in Spain. But I was born in Brazil and we spoke Portuguese at home, so no spanish here.

But yeah. Both Parenting Unpacked and Maternity Abroad just made it to Spain.

Gaia is the host of Quiero un Panino con Cheese, a podcast for parents, kids, and families living multicultural lives across borders. She asked me to be a guest in September and I said yes obviously. What an honor!

There is something specific about seeing your books in someone else’s hands and it does not get old. 🥹

Gaia is exactly the kind of reader these books were written for. She lives the multicultural family experience from the inside and she is building a community around it. Maternity Abroad for the beginning of the journey and Parenting Unpacked for the middle of it.

I hope the reading is good and that something in there lands the way it is supposed to. I cannot wait to find out in September what she found.

Jessica Gabrielzyk is a Brazilian writer living in Switzerland. She moved there with her husband and daughter, who was three months old at the time and had strong opinions about the whole thing even then.

She writes about change.

Parenting Unpacked, her second book, follows the experience of parenting through major life disruption, whether that's an international move, a career loss, a new baby, or a life that simply stops responding the way it used to. My First American Coloring Book was created to help toddlers engage with daily life in the United States through play and familiar imagery.

She is a member of SIETAR, the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research, and the International Academy of Brazilian Literature.

She writes for the parent who is still inside it, getting through the day, and wondering somewhere underneath all of it who they are becoming.

When she is not writing, she is walking forty minutes uphill with a stroller, telling herself the exercise is the point.
