May June 24th Be With You. Parenting Unpacked Is Available Today.

It is June 24th. 🎊

Parenting Unpacked is available today.

I have been writing toward this date for a long time. Five versions of the manuscript. A cast of families across multiple countries who trusted me with their stories. An intercultural psychologist who explained what happens to the brain when you move countries. A cover that got the fewest votes and was the right choice. A coffee ring on a kitchen table that turned out to be the promotional photo.

And now it exists. Today. In your hands if you want it.

Parenting Unpacked: Parenting Through the Loss of Self is for the parent who held everything together and somewhere in the middle of it stopped recognising themselves. The one who is still inside it. The one who has been functioning fine from the outside while something quieter has been asking for attention from the inside.

It is not a book about how to fix it. It is for the parent who needs a word for what is happening before they can do anything else about it.

Available now on Amazon worldwide in paperback and Kindle. Link in bio and on the books page.

To everyone who has been reading along since before the book existed, to the United Kingdom reader who pre-ordered before launch, to Ana Lúcia Cunha who called it “o detalhe do detalhe do detalhe,” to Ruth Van Reken who said we simply did not have words for it before, to Rima who sent notes from page 31 and page 81 in real time, and to Emma who put both hands in every single photoshoot.

The book is here. 💃

Jessica Gabrielzyk

Jessica Gabrielzyk is a Brazilian writer living in Switzerland. She moved there with her husband and daughter, who was three months old at the time and had strong opinions about the whole thing even then.

She writes about change.

The visible kind and the kind that happens inside a person, while everything on the outside looks fine.

Her first book, Maternity Abroad, explored what it means to become a mother far from the system you trusted. It has reached readers in more than fifteen countries across five continents. Parenting Unpacked, her second book, follows the experience of parenting through major life disruption, whether that's an international move, a career loss, a new baby, or a life that simply stops responding the way it used to. My First American Coloring Book was created to help toddlers engage with daily life in the United States through play and familiar imagery.

She is a member of SIETAR, the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research, and the International Academy of Brazilian Literature.

She writes for the parent who is still inside it, getting through the day, and wondering somewhere underneath all of it who they are becoming.

When she is not writing, she is walking forty minutes uphill with a stroller, telling herself the exercise is the point.
