Delusional Until You Succeed Abroad

Have you ever had a dream so bold that it seemed “delusional” to others? If you’ve ever considered moving abroad to start a new life, you know exactly what that feels like. Sara Blakely, the founder of SPANX, captures this perfectly with her quote: “It’s only delusional until it works.” At first glance, the idea of relocating to a new country might seem daunting, even impossible. But what if this “crazy” dream could transform into one of the most rewarding experiences of your life?

Moving Abroad: Empowered from Inside and Out in a Foreign Land coming Spring 2025!

Inspired by this very mindset, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve begun researching my third book, “Moving Abroad: Empowered Inside and Out in a Foreign Land.” This book will dive deep into the stories, tips, and insights from those who’ve made the leap to live in a foreign land. Their journeys reveal how embracing change and stepping into the unknown can lead to incredible personal growth and resilience.

Moving abroad is more than just packing your bags and changing your address; it’s a journey of profound personal transformation. As you navigate the challenges of a new culture, language, and environment, you’ll discover strengths you never knew you had. This journey isn’t without its hurdles, but the rewards of succeeding abroad—building a new life, gaining fresh perspectives, and creating meaningful experiences—are unparalleled.

In “Moving Abroad,” I’ll guide you through every step of this process, from handling the necessary legal paperwork and financial planning to emotionally adapting to your new surroundings. Whether you’re just starting to consider the idea or you’re already on your expat journey, this book will be your trusted companion, offering practical advice and heartfelt encouragement.

So, are you ready to turn your bold, “delusional” dreams into reality?

Jessica Gabrielzyk

Jessica Gabrielzyk is a Brazilian writer living in Switzerland. She moved there with her husband and daughter, who was three months old at the time and had strong opinions about the whole thing even then.

She writes about change.

The visible kind and the kind that happens inside a person, while everything on the outside looks fine.

Her first book, Maternity Abroad, explored what it means to become a mother far from the system you trusted. It has reached readers in more than fifteen countries across five continents. Parenting Unpacked, her second book, follows the experience of parenting through major life disruption, whether that's an international move, a career loss, a new baby, or a life that simply stops responding the way it used to. My First American Coloring Book was created to help toddlers engage with daily life in the United States through play and familiar imagery.

She is a member of SIETAR, the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research, and the International Academy of Brazilian Literature.

She writes for the parent who is still inside it, getting through the day, and wondering somewhere underneath all of it who they are becoming.

When she is not writing, she is walking forty minutes uphill with a stroller, telling herself the exercise is the point.
